I often see this a lot on GitHub. How can I reproduce this animated .gif effect?

Recording Animated GIFs in Simulator To save the recording as an animated GIF, right click the video preview and choose Save as Animated GIF. If you want to save the recording in both video and GIF formats, you can press the option key and place the cursor over the context menu.
Two decades later, you rarely see the GIF used for still images, because it's been effectively clobbered out of existence by newer and better JPEGs and PNGs.
Using Adobe Animate, you can very quickly create and export animated Gifs. These Gifs can be used within your Captivate projects.
You can record your screen with QuickTime and then convert that MOV file into a GIF.
Open QuickTime and click on the "File" menu then "New Screen Recording".
Drag your pointer to select the region of the screen you want to record, and then click the Start Recording button within the region.
When you're finished, stop recording. To stop recording, click the stop button in the menu bar. Now, go back to "File" menu and click "Export".
Save your screen recording as a movie.
Next, you can use Photoshop to open your screen recording and export it as a GIF.
