I am adding a button in an existing Excel file. I noticed that the existing buttons has the EMBED formula specified to it. What does the function mean?
=EMBED("Forms.CommandButton.1","")
On the Insert tab, choose Spreadsheet > Existing Excel Spreadsheet. Find and click the file you want to add, and choose Insert. Choose Insert Spreadsheet. Tip: If you want to embed just a table or chart from the spreadsheet, choose Insert a Chart or Table instead.
To insert multiple images at a time, press and hold the “Control” key, while selecting images from the pop-up dialog box. After highlighting the various files, click “Insert” in the same way. All images will upload to the previously selected location in the Excel spreadsheet.
Excel Form Controls are objects that we can insert into the worksheet to work with data and handle the data as specified. For example, using these form controls in Excel, we can create a drop-down list in excel. read more, list boxes, spinners, checkboxes, and scroll bars.
Honestly there really is not much documentation available on this "function". It is one of those things which are exposed unnecessarily when it really shouldn't have been. We are not supposed to enter this manually.
When you select a CommandButton and place it in Excel, you will see
=EMBED("Forms.CommandButton.1","")
in the Formula Bar. This text is necessary and should not be deleted. It is Excel's way of telling itself that an object has been inserted.
