I installed Emacs 24.3.1 (using homebrew
), which already comes with org-mode
, but I can't find the documentation for org-mode
within the Emacs built-in documentation (accessible via C-h i
).
I can find the org-mode
docs online here, but I'd prefer to read it directly in Emacs.
I find it very strange (in fact almost antithetical to the whole org-mode
text orientation) to find myself having to read this documentation using a web browser, and not right inside Emacs.
Do I need to download and install this documentation separately in order to read it within Emacs? If so, where can I find the appropriate (texinfo?) files?
Or is this documentation already bundled by default with Emacs (and I just need to configure my current Emacs installation to be able to browse it through C-h i
)?
Emacs has included Org Mode as a major mode by default since 2006. Bastien Guerry is the current maintainer, in cooperation with an active development community. Since its success in Emacs, some other systems now provide functions to work with org files.
Your life in plain text. A GNU Emacs major mode for keeping notes, authoring documents, computational notebooks, literate programming, maintaining to-do lists, planning projects, and more — in a fast and effective plain text system.
An ORG file is a data file created by Lotus organizer, a program used to manage personal information. It contains information such as a calendar, contacts, a to do list, and a planner. The ORG file format was the first format used by Lotus Organizer.
Description. Org mode is routinely used to build and manage complex workflows. It does this using an elegantly simple syntax that scales from basic markup to full LaTeX typesetting and from plain text notes to literate programs. Everything you need to get started is demonstrated in the example.
