Are there any UML tools (as Rose) on Ubuntu?
Open System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager and type "uml" in the search box.
Some alternatives are older, such as IDEF. Another alternative that comes to mind is something like Systems Modeling Language (SysML), which is actually an extension of and based on UML. This is also supported by IBM, and other companies that provide CASE software...
From the many diagrams proposed by UML, class diagrams and sequence diagrams are still widely used, certainly followed by state diagrams: they can easily be used on white boards to elaborate and discuss design before jumping in the code.
Gliffy is a free online drawing tool which provides support for drawing UML diagrams. It is one of the most widely used online diagramming application. Features: Allows you to draw a diagram with ease.
I use Dia for drawing UML diagrams (as well as other diagrams), but it cannot generate code (at least not without some additional tools, like dia2code). It's more like a general-purpose diagram drawing tool with a decent support for UML.
Umbrello is a tool dedicated to UML-based modelling. It's comparable to Dia in terms of drawing, plus it can export and import code from/to several languages.
The above apps are, in my opinion, the best you can get from Ubuntu. Nevertheless, there are several other apps/libraries that are somehow related to UML modelling. Open System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager and type "uml" in the search box.
