Why does Firefox name its UI interface configuration file : userChrome.css ? why not userFirefox.css ?
userChrome. css holds style rules for modifying Firefox's user interface. You can find users on the web offering a wide range of ready-to-paste style recipes, and communities where you can request help with rules to make your Firefox look just the way you want. And it's all free.
chrome/userChrome. css is a file in the profile folder. css in the chrome folder is a CSS file that can be used to change the way Mozilla applications' interfaces look.
Enable userChrome customisation in about:configNavigate to about:config in the address bar and accept the risks. Search for toolkit. legacyUserProfileCustomizations. stylesheets and toggle it to true (by double clicking on it).
At startup, Firefox will check for the userChrome. css file in a particular location: a folder named chrome inside your currently active profile folder. The profile folder is where all of your current settings and add-ons are stored.
The word "chrome" refers to the "skin" or basically what the UI looks like. The Google browser called Chrome came along later.
User interface features are sometimes referred to as "chrome". Google Chrome was called Chrome because it's a nicer skin with webkit rendering. Hope that helps :)
