What is the difference between Apache Ambari Server and Agent?
What is the role\tasks of the server vs Agent?
The Apache Ambari client and server framework, as part of the Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), is an optional third-party tool that enables you to configure, manage, and monitor a Hadoop cluster through a browser-based interface. The OneFS Ambari agent is configured per access zone.
Apache Ambari, as part of the Hortonworks Data Platform, allows enterprises to plan, install and securely configure HDP making it easier to provide ongoing cluster maintenance and management, no matter the size of the cluster.
Big Data clusters are managed using either Apache Ambari or Cloudera Manager. Use Apache Ambari if you created your Big Data cluster with Oracle Distribution including Apache Hadoop (ODH). Use Cloudera Manager if you created your Big Data cluster with Cloudera Distribution including Hadoop (CDH).
Apache Ambari is basically an open-source administration tool that is deployed on the top of Hadoop clusters. Ambari keeps track of the running applications and their status. We can refer to Ambari as the web-based management tool that monitors, manages, and provisions the health of the Hadoop clusters.
Ambari server collects informations from all Ambari clients and sends operations to clients (start/stop/restart a service, change configuration for a service, ...).
Ambari client sends informations about machine and services installed on this machine.
You have one Ambari server for your cluster and one Ambari agent per machine on your cluster.
