If you're writing a shoebox app, on the other hand, you should not use NSDocument. So if you're doing a shoebox app, you must implement your own file presenter and deal with version conflicts through that API.

We've added options to export your entire collection to iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, Windows, Dropbox and Google Drive. After we shut down, all photos and videos will be deleted from our cloud service.
Shoebox is offering users options to export their photo libraries to local storage, as well as Dropbox and Google Drive. Pro users (who paid for full-resolution storage) will receive prorated refunds for subscription fees. You can read more in Shoebox's announcement.
Slang referencing how people tend to keep old (physical) photos in a shoe box. Means works with a collection of items/library like Apple's Photos application.
Google Photos can auto-backup of your photos and videos to your Google account. You can choose to have it backup only when it is connected to a WiFi network — once the photos are backed up, you can remove them from your device to free up storage.
