I've just downloaded IE8, which replaced my IE7, but that's okay because IE8 has a 'compatibility view' which is meant to render pages like IE7 (not sure about the JavaScript).
I was wondering if there is a listing on the internet of all major differences a developer should know between the versions. I've searched Google a bit but haven't found a satisfactory listing.
So, what should I (or any other web developer) know about getting my site working optimally on IE8, and what are the major differences between the two?
Windows Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) is a web browser for Windows. It was released by Microsoft on March 19, 2009, as the eighth version of Internet Explorer and the successor to Internet Explorer 7.
The only 1 important difference is: IE6 is nothing but a huge pain for web-designers. IE6 must die! You have no idea how much a pain it is to design a website which works perfectly under Firefox and IE7,8 then find out it's totally broken under IE6, because IE6 is too dumb to compile the code....
Press F12 and select IE7 from the Browser Mode dropdown.
Internet Explorer (IE) 11 is the last major version of Internet Explorer. On June 15, 2022, the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application is no longer be supported on certain versions of Windows 10*. Customers are encouraged to move to Microsoft Edge, which provides support for legacy and modern websites and apps.
