About

I've been in love with databases since I wrote my first random-access file on the TRS-80 way, way back in the day. I'm self-taught, well-seasoned, and still passionate about this stuff. It's not just my job, it's my hobby.

I'm also interested in web technologies and am getting a kick out of React.js and the one-direction Flux approach to user interaction. Big fan of JQuery, PHP (I like CodeIgniter for MVC on PHP even though I hear it's dead and I need to learn something else like Cake). I'm more command-line than GUI.

I'm also very excited automated testing and deployment. The biggest deal I've seen in a long time is tSQLt - actual unit tests for Microsoft SQL Server. I wouldn't have thought it was possible if I hadn't seen it. This, combined with good source control and automated systems has made software releases almost non-events. It certainly has made them much more predictable and deliciously boring.

I'm a student and I'm a teacher. I love helping, I love learning. I'm often wrong and don't mind showing my stupidity so I can learn how to be better.
