When I try yarn build
, I get the following error.
WARNING in configuration
The 'mode' option has not been set, webpack will fallback to 'production' for this value.
Set 'mode' option to 'development' or 'production' to enable defaults for each environment.
You can also set it to 'none' to disable any default behavior. Learn more: https://webpack.js.org/configuration/mode/

Adding the mode:development
command solves the problem.
If you get this warning, the solution is quite simple:
webpack.config.js
const { merge } = require('webpack-merge');
const common = require('./webpack.common.js');
module.exports = merge(common, {
mode: 'production', //add this line here
});
source: https://webpack.js.org/guides/production/#specify-the-mode
Reason: I just did a huge version update and got this warning, luckily it's your situation also
