const path = require('path'); // libreria
module.exports = {
entry: './js/app.js',
output: {
    path: path.resolve(__dirname, 'public/js'),
    filename: 'bundle.js'
},
mode: 'development'}

Adding the mode:development command solves the problem.

If you get this warning, the solution is quite simple:

webpack.config.js

 const { merge } = require('webpack-merge');
  const common = require('./webpack.common.js');

  module.exports = merge(common, {
    mode: 'production', //add this line here
  });

source: https://webpack.js.org/guides/production/#specify-the-mode

Reason: I just did a huge version update and got this warning, luckily it's your situation also
