I might have pressed something on my keyboard by accident. The spaces on my code turned into boxes and it's annoying. How do I remove it?
Just press Ctrl + A to select everything, and voilá! You magically see all the tab and space chars as you described! Note that this also works in Sublime Text 3 and 4.
Sublime Text 2 allows you to convert tabs to spaces in existing files manually (View -> Indentation -> Convert indentation to spaces). However, this can be done automatically when saving the file.
You have opened the Find panel and searched for a space. Press Esc to close the find panel and the boxes will disappear. Alternatively turn off "highlight matches" in the find panel.
