SQL Server 2008 R2 is not supported on Windows 10 or Windows Server 2016.
To fix this issue, connect to the SQL Server instance by using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), open Properties for the instance, select Database Settings, and ensure that the Database Default locations for Data and Log point to the correct folders. Then, retry the CU or SP installation.
When you receive an update through Microsoft Update, it will update all SQL Server features to the latest version in an unattended mode. If you need more flexibility or don't have internet or WSUS access, you must obtain the updates from the Microsoft Download Center.
To start SQL Server Management Studio On current versions of Windows, on the Start page, type SSMS, and then select Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. When using older versions of Windows, on the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server, and then select SQL Server Management Studio.
Please verify that Service "SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)" is started.
