I am seeing Django 500 Error
when I set DEBUG = False
in Django. I am using Django 1.5 and Python 2.7
. I have also included ALLOWED_HOSTS
in my template. Here's my full settings.py:

What's wrong?
Updated the logging as Ryu_hayabusa suggested and I am getting this error in the console:

When DEBUG is False , Django will email the users listed in the ADMINS setting whenever your code raises an unhandled exception and results in an internal server error (strictly speaking, for any response with an HTTP status code of 500 or greater). This gives the administrators immediate notification of any errors.
Open your settings.py file (or settings_local.py ) and set DEBUG = False (just add that line if necessary).
As first step, enable DEBUG mode in Django settings module to see if that fixes the issue or at least causes a description of the error in the browser. It is quite common to get a 500 error response delivered back from Django with no record of the exception being logged.
Use the following LOGGING
settings, then you should be able to see the error in the console.
LOGGING = {
'version': 1,
'disable_existing_loggers': False,
'filters': {
'require_debug_false': {
'()': 'django.utils.log.RequireDebugFalse'
}
},
'handlers': {
'mail_admins': {
'level': 'ERROR',
'filters': ['require_debug_false'],
'class': 'django.utils.log.AdminEmailHandler'
},
'console':{
'level': 'DEBUG',
'class': 'logging.StreamHandler',
},
},
'loggers': {
'django.request': {
'handlers': ['mail_admins'],
'level': 'ERROR',
'propagate': True,
},
}
}
remember to set DEBUG = False
I got the 500 Internal Server
error after switching DEBUG
off as well. Another reason this could happen is if you have an extra /
at the start of the relative static path. So replace:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="{% static '/css/somecustom.css' %}">
with
<link rel="stylesheet" href="{% static 'css/somecustom.css' %}">
i.e. search and replace {% static '/
with {% static '
in your template files.
To understand this further you can read up on the caching behaviour of Django’s ManifestStaticFilesStorage
backend.
