I have a question about itunes connect, if I submit an app to itunes connect but set it to pending developers release, will I be able to submit an update for that app without releasing my initial version?
In other words, can I update an app which is pending developers release?

Pending Developer release: Your updated app version has been approved by Apple but you still need to manually release to the store for sale (if you chose manual release as your version release method). Ready for Sale: Your updated app version has been approved and it is made available on the Apple Store.
On average, 90% of submissions are reviewed in less than 24 hours. You'll be notified by email of status changes. You can also check the review status of your submission in the My Apps section of App Store Connect or on the App Store Connect app for iPhone and iPad.
In your app in iTunes Connect, select Binary Details and then reject binary. This will reject your update that is pending developer release. Then you can submit a new version of your app.
