In Eclipse you can check the "Link with Editor" option and whatever source file you are viewing in the current tab will be highlighted and have its package expanded in the Package Explorer view.
Is there something equivalent to this in IntelliJ IDEA 8.1?

Editor basics The IntelliJ IDEA editor is the main part of the IDE that you use to create, read and modify code.
From the main menu, select File | Project Structure Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S and click Modules. Select the necessary module and open the Sources tab. to the right of the necessary folder (folder path). Specify the path relative to the output folder root, and click OK.
To link resources between the Navigator and the editors in the workbench, locate the Link button in the Navigator toolbar at the top of its UI. The Link button is an icon with two arrows pointing to each other. Move the mouse over it; hover help should read Link with Editor.
You can press Alt-Home, it goes to the navigation bar. Go to or select the package by pressing left arrow. Press F4 now to see it in the project view.
At IntelliJ IDEA 12 (13, 14 and 15 from comments), it is located at the gear icon into the "Project" Tool Window, called as our mate said, Autoscroll from source
