Can I allow the user to only choose the drive in which the software will be installed?
For example they can choose the C or D drive:
C:\Software
D:\Software
But the user can not specify anything else,
Like they can't choose to install the software under Downloads or MyDocumnets … etc.
Is this possible?
Inno Setup is an open source script-driven installation system created in Delphi by Jordan Russell. The first version was released in 1997. Since Jordan Russell wasn't satisfied with InstallShield Express which he had received upon purchase of Borland Delphi, he decided to make his own installer.
Go to Menu, Project, then Compile to compile and create the setup file. This will create a complete installer. Run the Setup and your application will be installed correctly. Innosetup offers an awesome alternative to create great looking Installers for free.
Create MSI with Inno Setup. The MSI Wrapper was produced to create MSI packages from executable files built with Inno Setup. It puts the setup.exe inside an MSI file and runs it with the specified command line switches when the MSI package is installed.
Inno Setup grew popular due to being free and open source; free for both commercial and non-commercial use, many software companies switched to the tool.
There are hundreds of ways to design this restriction. I chose the one which creates a combo box with available paths that user can choose from. This code as first lists all fixed drives on the machine, and if there's at least one, it creates the combo box which is placed instead of original dir selection controls. It is filled with drive names followed by a fixed directory taken from the DefaultDirName directive value which must not contain a drive portion since it is already concatenated with found fixed drive roots:
