I wish to run the following code:
g <- ggplot (df, aes(x=Age, y=RSL, shape = Type)) +
geom_point() +
scale_shape_manual(values=c(1,15,5)) + #makes open circle/triangle
theme(axis.line=element_line(colour = "black", size = 0.5, linetype = "solid")) + # adds solid black x and y axis
geom_errorbar(aes(ymin=y_min_error, ymax=y_max_error)) + # y error bar
geom_errorbarh(aes(xmin=x_min_error, xmax=x_max_error)) +
ylim(0,120) + # y axis limits
theme_classic() +
theme(legend.position="bottom")
g
How can I remove the tick ends on the error bars?
Also, if someone could advise me how I remove the excess space in the code easily, that would be great. I use dput
to extract a sample of my dataframe but whenever I copy the code in the console, I also get lots of extra space.
A sample dataframe:
df <- structure(list(SITCD = structure(c(3L, 3L, 3L, 3L, 3L, 3L, 3L,

You can set height
and width
to zero for x
and y
error bars, respectively.
Look below;
ggplot (df, aes(x=Age, y=RSL, shape = Type)) +
geom_point() +
scale_shape_manual(values=c(1,15,5)) + #makes open circle/triangle
theme(axis.line=element_line(colour = "black", size = 0.5,
linetype = "solid")) + # adds solid black x and y axis
geom_errorbar(aes(ymin=y_min_error, ymax=y_max_error),width=0,) + # y error bar
geom_errorbarh(aes(xmin=x_min_error, xmax=x_max_error),height=0) + # x error bar
ylim(0,120) + # y axis limits
theme_classic() +
theme(legend.position="bottom")
You may also use geom_linerange
instead of geom_errorbar
and geom_errorbarh
ggplot (df, aes(x=Age, y=RSL, shape = Type)) +
geom_point() +
scale_shape_manual(values=c(1,15,5)) + #makes open circle/triangle
theme(axis.line=element_line(colour = "black", size = 0.5,
linetype = "solid")) + # adds solid black x and y axis
geom_linerange(aes(ymin=y_min_error, ymax=y_max_error)) + # y error bar
geom_linerange(aes(xmin=x_min_error, xmax=x_max_error)) + # x error bar
ylim(0,120) + # y axis limits
theme_classic() +
theme(legend.position="bottom")
