Different iPhones have different published memory 4GB, 8GB and 16GB. The touch can have 32GB. My understanding is this is the off-line memory (disk alike).
How much actual fast ram is there in the device available for my Cocoa Application?
Is there a preconfigured virtual amount?
For example, 1TB or higher iPad Pro models come with 16 GB RAM while any iPad Pro with 512 GB or less storage has 8 GB RAM.
Surprisingly, Apple never specifies the amount of RAM in iPhones. But, in general, bigger or "Pro" versions of iPhones come with greater RAM. For example, the iPhone 13 comes standard with 4GB of RAM, whereas the Pro models offer 6GB of RAM.
Each iPod also has 32 MB of RAM, although the 60 GB and 80 GB fifth generation, and the sixth-generation models have 64 MB. A portion of the RAM is used to hold the iPod OS loaded from firmware, but the majority of it serves to cache songs from the storage medium.
The very first iPhone had just 128 MB RAM, and the latest model, the iPhone 13, has either 4 or 6 GB RAM. You may notice that, with some recent models – starting with the iPhone 7 Plus – larger or "Pro" iPhones have more RAM. For example, the iPhone 13 comes with 4 GB standard, whereas the Pro models have 6 GB.
iOS doesn't use swap space, therefore, only RAM will be available to processes. (That said, iOS does support paging executables.)
