From the research I've done, I cannot find any concrete answers to this question. The desktop version of Safari has supported this functionality for some time, but does the iOS version also natively support pushing notifications from websites? If not is there an alternative solution?
I also cannot find anything on Microsoft Edge supporting this function either. I feel like I read that at one point in time, but I'm having a hard time finding anything now.
The good news is that Pusher Beams now has Safari support and we've been able to hide most of the complexity for developers by: We provide a unified API for triggering notifications to Push API browsers and Safari – you can send to both with a single API call (as well as to iOS/Android)
Hi, Progressive Web Apps is a trend in 2019 and web push notifications for iOS are not supported right now.
Microsoft Edge now supports web push notifications via the Push API, beginning with the Windows 10 April 2018 Update. Web push notifications allow you to build re-engaging experience by delivering timely, relevant notifications to users, even when your browser or web app is closed.
Chrome doesn't get notifications on your iPhone or iPad. If you get any alerts from Chrome, you may have pop-ups enabled.
Strangely, Apple does support Web Push with Safari on the Mac but there’s no word on when it will be available for Safari on iOS. There are a few core components required to make Web Push notifications work. The most important of which is the Service Worker framework which needs to reside in the core-OS.
Support for Microsoft Edge will come very soon, since on Feb 3, 2016 Microsoft announced: The Push API is on the backlog with a priority of high. For iOS currently there are no official plans. Show activity on this post. Safari on iOS don't support push notifications.
Businesses and developers who are considering using Web Push shouldn’t let the lack of iOS support stop them. Web Push is supported on nearly every other browser, including Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and even Safari for macOS.
