I'm unable to upgrade my OS X to 10.11, due to reasons. XCode 7.3 seems to be the first XCode not to be compatible with Yosemite 10.10.
Has anyone succeeded in getting XCode 7.3 to work on Yosemite? (What's the important update to XCode that has to make it uncompatible with Yosemite?)

You can stay informed about the progress of our Catalina testing on our macOS Catalina support status page. As a result, we are phasing out software support for all computers running macOS 10.10 Yosemite and will end support on December 31, 2019.
The macOS 10.15 SDK provides support for developing apps for Macs running macOS Catalina 10.15. The SDK comes bundled with Xcode 11 available from the Mac App Store.
The latest version of macOS, macOS Catalina, is supported on any Mac introduced in 2012 or newer. If your Mac doesn't support macOS Catalina, it might be supported by macOS High Sierra, which requires a Mac introduced in 2009 or 2010. If your Mac isn't supported still, you could still upgrade to OS X El Capitan.
Unfortunately no, you can not.
You need OS X 10.11 or later (El Capitan), since March 21st.
So you either update from Yosemite to El Capitan or stick with your current Xcode.
Important? I will say not that much... iOS 9.3 and Swift 2.2, if you are fond of... With the rest of the OSs. The rest is pretty much the same, it's not a major update.
