<p>I'm considering buying the "Pro" version of one of these mind mapping applications to upgrade from FreeMind and store my mind maps on the cloud. Both of them support the file extensions of this latter.</p> <p>Do you use any of the above applications? Which are their relative strengths and weaknesses? <strong>XMind</strong> has been recently awarded as The Best Project for Academia by SourceForge. <strong>MindMeister</strong> seems to have a nice iPhone app client. Is MindMeister any good?

"MindMeister is a fantastic MindMapping tool. Very useful for brainstorming new ideas." "The mind map method is a great way to visualize projets and the fact that you can collaborate is the best way to use it."

How good is XMind?

xMind has been my go-to mindmapping software for this. I'm using version 8, and it has a much better UI (than other similar apps). The Pro features like Gantt-Chart helps me to use it for Project Implementations. The Walk-through (Presentation Mode) is great for presentation during meetings.

Is XMind a Chinese app?

Mango Software, a developer in China, recently released XMIND, a Java-based mind mapping software program for Windows and Mac OS X. I recently downloaded and installed it, and I must say it appears to be quite solid for a new program.

Both products are excellent and are rightly the market leaders in the cloud-based mind mapping market.
