What I have tried

  • renaming the varable opts
  • checked so the variables are named the same
  • tried using dotenv
  • replacing keys.secretOrKey with a string

passport.js

const JwtStrategy = require('passport-jwt').Strategy;
const ExtractJwt = require('passport-jwt').ExtractJwt;
const mongoose = require('mongoose');
const User = mongoose.model("users");
const keys = require("./keys")

const opts = {};

opts.jwtFromRequest = ExtractJwt.fromAuthHeaderAsBearerToken();
opts.secretKey = keys.secretOrKey;

module.exports = passport => {
    passport.use(
        new JwtStrategy(opts, (jwt_payload, done) => {
            User.findById(jwt_payload.id)
            .then(user => {
                if (user) {
                    return done(null, user)
                }
                return done(null, false)
            })
            .catch(err => {
                console.log(err)
            });
        })
    )
}

keys.js

module.exports = {
    secretOrKey: 'secret'
};

You have to use right key name for secretkey in options. You should write like this:-

opts.secretOrKey = keys.secretOrKey

By mistake you wrote opts.secretKey. Hope this helps!
