So, where is the mic located? Some people mistakenly think it's somewhere near the camera, but the truth is that every Mac's microphone is located on the bottom casing.
Select the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your Mac menu bar. In the local menu, select System Preferences. Select Hardware > Sound. In the Sound window, select the Input tab.
Use the Audio Devices window to set up audio input and output devices, such as microphones and audio interfaces. In the Audio MIDI Setup app on your Mac, choose Window > Show Audio Devices. Available devices appear in the sidebar of the Audio Devices window.
Most Macs, including all laptops, have a built-in microphone, but an external microphone typically affords better sound quality. Different Macs have different port configurations: Not all Macs have a line-in port, and some models of MacBook have a single audio port that can be used as both audio line-in and line-out.
I have a MacBook Alluminium and I want to capture the microphone in a RAW format and output a RAW audio through the speakers, in a standard way, i.e., using the terminal with standard Unix commands and using the standard /dev/??? devices.
So, the question/s:
Which devices are the microphone and speakers? Those both should start with /dev/...
Are they different if they are built-in or external? Which ones? (Also they have to start with /dev/...)
If you know also the unix commands to print the microphone input and to write the output for speakers that would be extra points! :) (I want to capture it from mic, modify it -I got it-, and send it modified to speakers)
If you know also the Assembly instructions for OSX that would be the perfection! But the main questions are which are in the bulleted list.
Thanks!
