What is the limit of character to use in alt="text" according to WCAG 2.0?

Alt text should describe the content and purpose of the video. Ideally, a video should contain a second audio track with a description of the video elements that are purely visual and not accessible to people with a visual disability.

Deciding what to include and what not to include in an image's alt description is a grey area in web accessibility. Alt attributes (or alternative attributes) are textual descriptions of images added to the HTML code that a screen reader will read to a user as they navigate through a webpage.
there is no limit explicitly set, but conventionally they are limited to 1024 chars. I believe that I have heard that the search engines will go no further than about 200 characters. What is the use case? There is a longdesc attribute that may be of interest...
