I use a subversion client called SmartSVN, but it needs Java in order to run. I would like to get rid of that dependency and try something new. Can you think of a better SVN client?
I have tried TortoiseSVN and RapidSVN and I did not like any of those. I do have Versions on the mac and I absolutely love that program. Is there anything even remotely similar to that on Windows? I do not mind paying money for it.
The SVN client allows you to browse repositories, check for changes, commit changes, update your working copy, and examine the revision history.
While SVN is no longer the most used VCS, it has managed to establish itself in a few very niche areas. Features like customizable access control to project files and a central server are some reasons why developers may still be using SVN.
TortoiseSVN, a Windows shell extension, gives feedback on the state of versioned items by adding overlays to the icons in the Windows Explorer. Repository commands can be executed from the enhanced context menu provided by Tortoise.
An SVN server is usually installed on a central computer and it manages the data of the SVN repository in a database. An SVN repository is simply directory tree that contains your CODESYS project. The SVN server makes client access available to the stored data and the CODESYS projects.
Not being a Mac user, I am not familiar with Versions. In my experience, there is a really great SVN client called AnkhSVN. It is a Visual Studio Plugin, so that probably eliminates it from consideration.
