What does "Filter on Type" do in Outline mode?

In various articles and videos the Outline portion of the explorer is shown having a filter box. This seems to have been removed (or else some setting I haven't found hides it). The menu offers "Filter by Type", but it doesn't seem to have any effect. I know I can go into settings to show/hide various types such as functions, constants, etc.

What is Filter by Type supposed to do? Can I use it to show only functions, for example, without changing settings?

Sort by category groups functions together, variables together, etc. Maybe I'm mixing up what is meant by Type?

I was wondering the same thing! Turns out how that options works has changed. It no longer filters when just typing. Now you have to use a search keyboard shortcut first then start typing. If "Filter on Type" is enabled then it will start filtering.

You can find the default keyboard shortcut for your platform here: https://code.visualstudio.com/updates/v1_89#_find-in-trees-keybinding
