What is the meaning of Volume in Yahoo Finance (web.DataReader(stock, 'yahoo', start, end))? Is it average daily trading volume or average dollar volume? Is it a number of shares or number of dollars?

Volume on Yahoo Finance's charts are the physical number of shares traded of that stock (not dollar amount) for your given period of time.
The dollar volume is the total value of the shares traded. Dollar volume is calculated by trading volume multiplied by price. For example, if XYZ has a total trading volume of 100,000 shares at $5, then the dollar volume is $500,000.
Market average daily volume in H1 2022 was 38.3M contracts, 1.1M contracts more than 2021, 10.7M contracts more than 2020 and over 20M contracts more than 2019.
Generally, volume refers to the number of shares transacted per day. Having an understanding of the entire market's trading volume versus the volume of a single holding can be one important comparison that helps analysts to discern volume trends.
