Does anyone know of a robotics developer environment ideal for testing AI programs for drones (e.g. quadcopters, planes, helicopters, etc.)? I would like something like Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio that includes a virtual environment (such as an outdoor environment with gravity, wind, etc.) to test out flight dynamics. I would like the options to add sensors to the virtual drone, such as gps, altimeter, gyros, etc. that the AI program can then use to steer the drone.

The term drone is generally applied to unmanned, powered, free-flying platforms. Other terms referring to small, remotely controlled aircraft include UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle), MAV (micro air vehicle) and RPV (remotely piloted vehicle). The most basic distinction is whether the platform is manned or unmanned.
Privacy. One of the most common concerns from the public about UAVs is privacy. Drones can collect data and images without drawing attention, leading many Americans to fear their Fourth Amendment right to privacy may be in jeopardy. This can occur if government entities were to use drones to monitor the public.
Drones are effectively employed to monitor environmental catastrophes in unsafe locations, such as during floods or after storms. Drones may be used in cameras, thermometers, humidity and pressure sensors, wind gauges, and other sensors, allowing them to collect vital environmental data.
I'm not sure if this is helpful, but i watched a Defcon 20 talk not long ago and during a demonstration the guy used a modded flight simulator perhaps you could do something similar? approx 42 mins in DEFCON 20: Hacker + Airplanes = No Good Can Come Of This
