I am a software engineer living just outside the DC metro area. I have been in the I.T. industry for over 25 years and have served as everything from a help desk phone jockey, to an infrastructure architect, to a software engineer.
Many of the applications I have written are tailored to improving or consolidating tasks within the Windows Operating System. As of late, much of my development is in WPF with C# on the back end.
I have come to find that many technical people that are not developers feel they will never have to code during their careers. I think now more than ever, we as technical professionals in the Windows world are taken to task with writing something as simple as a command-line or powershell script to a fully-fledged application to accomplish the tasks we face on a day-to-day basis. You won’t find every solution by Googling it, so you need to be prepared to own something that could make your professional life a whole lot better. Also, the constant learning curve will keep your career fresh and exciting.
