For doctorate in Anthropology I lived in Palo Alto and San Francisco in the 1980s and was drawn into the Internet through The WELL. Active since mid-1990s in standardization related to Semantic Web as an organizer of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (ongoing) and a W3C working group chair for SKOS. Currently helping to create a core Global Agricultural Concept Scheme from AGROVOC and other thesauri. Have programmed a bit "on the side" since the early 1980s. Starting with ksh/bash, awk, and vim, I dabbled in Perl but dropped, then dabbled more seriously in Python. Since 2015 am happily moving to Ruby. Recently taught at Sungkyunkwan University iSchool (Department of Library and Information Science). Speak six languages fairly well and have some knowledge of another six but find computer languages harder to learn so am motivated by the challenge.
