Everyone dreams about creating the most awesome program ever. About creating/utilizing that one algorithm like nobody else ever has. About building a fancy, elegant, and streamlined architecture that has never seen the light of day yet. Exploration into the future.
I dream about raising programs from the dead. Programs whose dependencies have long become obsolete and disappeared. Programs whose IDEs have perished years ago. Programs that have your typical char *
issues, (int)NULL
issues, 64-, 32- or even 16-bit issues, don't know that there is a world outside the ASCII codepage, where boost::shared_ptr
was a new, exciting, and highly experimental feature.
Many of them still have very valid algorithms. And I would like to make them available again, but in a safer and more modern fashion. Yes. I would like to put the Indiana Jones in indie coding. And I'm proud of that.
