I was educated as a civil engineer and picked up programming because I needed for school. That put me on a path as a software developer for water resources software. Once I had quite a bit of professional experience, I founded the Open Water Foundation, which develops open source software and open data solutions to make better decisions about water. I also founded TriLynx Systems with a partner, which provides a real-time environmental data collection solution, focusing on flood warning and emergency management. I wear a lot of hats but still do a lot of coding, mostly in Java, Python, C, and Linux shell scripting, but also direct projects for web applications, web services, databases, and many other technologies.
