About

Hi, I am Sergio F. Rodriguez, an economist by education and a developer and system administrator by trade.

The first programming language I learned was Pascal; later, I found my way to FoxPro and a bit of ANSI C. From there on, I moved to dynamically-typed and scriptings languages suck as PHP3, PHP 5, and later versions, Perl, Python 2.7 and 3, and JavaScript. Oh yes, let us not forget ActionScript.

I also feel comfortable with SQL as it has been part of my learning career since PHP3, and its English-like syntax makes it easy to remember.

Books: The Art Of Computer Programming by Donald Knuth. Grokking Algorithms by Aditya Bhargava. Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman. The No Asshole Rule by Robert Sutton. Let My People Go Surfing by Yvon Chouinard. Clean Code by Uncle Bob (Robert Martin). Also, I'd recommend reading "High-Performance MySQL." to anyone interested in learning about databases' nuts and bolts, and finally, Meditation by Marcus Aurelius and The Art of War by Sun Tzu.

Random: I am a VI, Linux, and Bash fan. Almost 20 years later and I still have room to improve. And Python has become my go-to scripting language.

Deficiencies: I have never cared much for .NET solutions and probably should have been more open-minded about it. There is time to learn - time will tell.

Fun Spare Time Projects:

  • Built a Python Web Scraping and Web API capturing ETF prices changes and scoring, tracking in T-SQL, and visually representing findings with D3JS (ReactJS Framework) and PowerBi.

  • Created a scheduled python-based bot to track, interact and inject data into a #slack channel.

  • Developed a python web API using web3.py and alchemy end-point to interact with the Ethereum EVM. Allowing for dynamic calls to check gas prices, contract interaction, fund wallets, and contracts.

  • Launched a private Geth Ethereum node
