I characterize myself as a technology-agnostic software engineer with excellent soft skills for leading teams and translating technical concerns into layman’s terms—especially when working with user experience and human-computer interaction (HCI) professionals. The bulk of my technical experience has been with building web applications, and while my sharpest programming skills are with JavaScript (client-side and Node.js), I have a proven track record of learning—on demand—the practical skills necessary for any project. I am not entrenched in any particular technology, but instead I choose to rely on critical thinking and pragmatic problem solving to choose the right tool for the job.
During my time at The Nerdery, a consultancy, I was trusted with leading teams on several projects where we had little to no experience in the desired technology. This included projects both large and small for both large enterprise customers and smaller businesses. I have also lead a large engagement focused more on rolling out agile methodologies than writing code.
Prior to the Nerdery I worked for Proximex, a physical security information management (PSIM) start-up, where I lead the effort to develop a web-based version of their existing desktop software. This application provided real-time security management by aggregating events from numerous security devices (i.e. cameras and access control), overlaying information on interactive maps, and providing response workflows based on the situation.
