Certificated pilot, instrument ground instructor, scuba diver, sports photographer who's been coding since before you were born. I've seen frameworks and inter-op protocols come and go for decades, so before you come to me with your shiny new toy know that I can sometimes be a bit cynical.
Don't take it personally.
On the other hand, I've had complex websites run non-stop for over ten years & understand the design, security and maintenance issues necessary to achieve that.
I've shipped product on Windows 1.02, hand-coded SNMP and CORBA parsers, built high-performance document search servers, designed satellite protocols... all last century. Automatically scraped thousands of (unwilling?) websites.
I've also managed teams of programmers in a half dozen countries, taught UNIX at Bell Labs and enjoyed most every minute of it.
The best thing about this industry is there's always new stuff.
I prefer python over java, json over xml, mac over windows, emacs over, well, everything else.
