About

Jeff Hay is a software developer and architect with a particular emphasis on communication protocols, data architectures, and multi-platform design. He studied Computer Science at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, where he graduated in 1997. He then spent five years at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) working on various research projects centered around TCP/IP networks. While at LANL, he designed and developed embedded code for a real-time, high-bandwidth network analyzer and created a low-overhead network stack monitoring system for Linux which has since been integrated into the Linux kernel. He was coauthor of papers presented at the IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications and Networks as well as the Annual Linux Showcase. Jeff then joined HYTEC, Inc. where he was the Senior Software Engineer and team lead for the FlashCT line of X-ray computed tomography scanners. In this role, he designed and optimized a system for fault-tolerant processing of extremely large data sets over a local cluster of Windows workstations. In addition to designing the system from back-end architecture to customer-facing GUI, he was responsible for writing highly-optimized file I/O, X-ray generator control, and data processing code for the project. As the software team lead, Jeff was instrumental in seeing the code through the FDA's verification and validation process for medical devices. In 2009, Jeff started Portable Knowledge, LLC to design and develop iOS, Android, and Blackberry apps for a series of high-profile clients, including a Mastercard licensee and an international telecommunications company. His apps have included real-time image manipulation, resilient and secure instant messaging, location-aware processing, and cross-platform networking technologies. Jeff has several apps available in the three major mobile app markets (Apple App Store, Google Play Marketplace, and Amazon Appstore), is an active member of StackOverflow, and regularly contributes to open source code projects for a variety of platforms.
