I've been writing software for nearly a decade to solve problems and make tools for my own work and research. While completing my Ph.D. in another field, I have been working as a contract software developer focusing on Ruby on Rails. I have worked on greenfield and legacy projects in Ruby, Python, JavaScript, and PHP and have experience with MVC frameworks in all those languages.
I consider myself a generalist developer who brings with me a proven track record of rapidly learning and applying domain knowledge to raise questions and offer informed solutions. I am a clear communicator with extensive experience researching, teaching, and writing about complex topics.
In my spare time, I enjoy learning dead languages, sci-fi novels, digital photography, woodworking, and riding my bike.
