I am a data scientist n00b working for Oregon State University. I got my ph.D. here in Forest Ecology. In our network, we are becoming very Matlab dependent. I have been using Matlab off and on for years, but now have found this is a key skill for me, and have for about the past 6 months been really digging in. Unfortunately, I also have to sometimes do things like "interact with students" (teach classes). I consider myself to be a Matlab "power user" and a LaTeX "power user" with a budding interest in Erlang and concurrent processing. I speak "the query languages" as well, but more to the extent of "I know how to look up the exact syntax of what I would like to do in just about any of the SQL like dialects." I would like to marry couchDB. This may be because it is written in Erlang.
I am here to learn more about the inner workings of MATLAB. I think that it is a very powerful system that pulls in a lot of great features from a lot of languages-- which it better do considering it's quite spendy. Thanks for helping me out.
