I view management like I view defects and dishes. Ideally, they never exist; but in reality, they are a constant existence.
While most people believe a leader is better than a manager, I believe they are not the same for comparison. While a leader does provide guidance and direction, a manager nurtures and grows his team to be as effective as they can be. Both can exist without the other to bring results, and together they can compound greater results.
My mantra is to help individuals to be the best they can be as a person and as a team player. I am happy when they are able to find better opportunities, just as I am when they return with new skills and experience to share with the team.
