Current re-igniting my career in software engineering, from which I deviated for a few years to diversify into school-teaching and audiobook narration/production!
From 1997 through 2008, I did a lot of work in the Data (and metadata) Migration realm, focusing on building and managing products for Treehouse Software (treehouse.com) that made it easier to get data and metadata out of mainframe-based ADABAS databases, and into RDBMS systems such as Oracle, SQL-Server, etc. I also added functionality to the Treehouse data-migration suite to generate Java (JPA compliant) data access layers for the new RDBMS tables that our migration suite created.
That background in Java is what I'm building on now, and since I was involved with "Big Data" on mainframes back then, I'm diving into HBase now (thematically consistent, even if the technologies don't relate much to one another -- at least on the surface).
