As both a technical leader and a trusted advisor, I wear many hats throughout the course of the day ranging from Service Assurance Team Lead to DevOps Engineer to Solutions Architect.

Currently working on expanding the in-depth Monitoring/Logging/Metrics platform that keeps tabs on Cisco's global OpenStack deployments using tools like the ELK stack (ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana), Sensu, Kafka, Streamsets, and Grafana - all developed using a custom stack automated via Ansible.

Specialties:

  • Service Assurance: Creation of custom monitoring solutions, including use of synthetic transactions, metrics-based alerting, and dashboards for Log Aggregation and Metrics

  • Automation: Ansible, Puppet (to lesser extent)

  • Virtualization: OpenStack, VMWare, Docker (to lesser extent)

  • Web Applications: J2EE Platform Support; Troubleshooting of JavaScript (via Chrome Dev Tools and Firebug), JSP, and Java; Tomcat; MongoDB (M102 Certified); Oracle; memcached; RabbitMQ; ActiveMQ; Solr; REST APIs; JSON

  • Coding/Scripting: Decently proficient in Python; Some experience in Ruby and shell scripting

  • Mobile Applications: iOS application support, small amount of XCode usage

  • Processes: Creating escalation process and procedures, Log analysis, Dashboard development, Proactive alarm design, Creation of and driving design documentation Best Practices, Driving redesign of logging/metrics to improve supportability

  • General "hacking": Use of sniffer captures when logging is insufficient, "reverse engineering" product design when documentation is insufficient/missing, understanding the "big picture" as well as the bits-and-bytes to troubleshoot issues

  • Contact Center and Unified Communications: Cisco Voice Portal, Cisco Communications Manager (formerly CallManager), Cisco Intelligent Contact Management (ICM), Cisco Unified Contact Center Enterprise/Express, Cisco Unified IP-IVR

  • Routing/Switching While lapsed, previously had CCNP and CCDP certification
