I use Microsoft Access as the development environment - rather than Visual Studio - since it focuses more directly on the database features i.e. visual query development. The users don't need to know Access at all and the ribbon is hidden so generally do not even know that Access is being used.

If the data is stored in SQL Server - then I focus only on developing the front end application. I don't manage SQL Server and let the client's staff do that part when needed. I also do not do web based nor mobile apps - just Windows Applications.

Stack Overflow is primarily other developers - so I'm probably not telling you anything you don't already know. But fundamentally I focus on just this 1 technology.
