I tried completely uninstalling Xcode but it still says "update" in the App Store. When i try to update it, it just says that the item is temporarily unavailable, asking me to try again later. I am currently using OSX Yosemite 10.10.1 to update it to Version 6.1.1. How can i solve this?
You cannot install Xcode without an Apple ID, but you can install Xcode's command line tools, as I explain below. If you don't have an Apple ID already, you can create one for free here.
The xip itself is 11 GB so that's obviously no indication. The closest I could get to an answer was the comment about Xcode 13.2. 1 to this answer which says 45 GB needed to install, presumably using the AppStore though. The top answer to QA you linked says it now needs 49GB.
Try going to the "App Store" > "Store" > "Check for Unfinished Downloads ..."
This fixed the bug for me, but I'm still running Mavericks.
to update it to Version 6.1.1
In your Web browser, sign into the Apple developr site and then click this link:
https://developer.apple.com/downloads/index.action?name=Xcode
Xcode 6.1.1 is the first link, at the top of that page. Click it!
