An Entry widget in Tkinter is nothing but an input widget that accepts single-line user input in a text field. To return the data entered in an Entry widget, we have to use the get() method. It returns the data of the entry widget which further can be printed on the console.
To enter multiple lines of text, use the Text widget. Entry in the Tkinter reference starts with: The purpose of an Entry widget is to let the user see and modify a single line of text. If you want to display multiple lines of text that can be edited, see Section 24, “The Text widget”.
Python allows input validation by allowing variable tracing using a callback function. This function is called whenever an input is added/deleted to/from an Entry widget. Some applications validate input on form submission, but the following piece of code performs validation with every stroke of key from the keyboard.
The Entry widget is used to accept single-line text strings from a user. If you want to display multiple lines of text that can be edited, then you should use the Text widget. If you want to display one or more lines of text that cannot be modified by the user, then you should use the Label widget.
I have an Entry widget on a simple calculator. The user can choose to enter an equation via the keypad. I was wondering if there was a way to detect a character(from the keypad in my case) being typed into the Entry widget. So, focus is on the widget, user presses '4', it comes up on the widget... can I detect this act, for basic purposes of logging the input?
