When opening Remote Desktop to different Windows servers, it is easy to confuse two remote desktops.

How do you prevent the desktop background on the remote computer from displaying on the local computer? On the Experience tab of the Remote Desktop Connection, clear the Desktop Background checkbox.
by using the "X" button on your RDP session you do not get logged off. You will be disconnected and your user session is still there. Anyway there is a Windows-GPO that can be used to set a time limit on disconnected sessions. There should be a setting Set time limit for disconnected sessions .
Why does my desktop background keep disappearing on Windows 10? This can happen if Windows keeps refreshing for some reason, and in most cases, the cause for this are the background processes, so be sure to disable them.
I've used BGInfo from the SysInternals guys to do this in the past.
