Spring Security and LDAP authentication

I'm trying to set up LDAP authentication, this is my spring-security.xml file:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<beans:beans xmlns:beans="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans"
       xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
       xmlns="http://www.springframework.org/schema/security"
       xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans
       http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans/spring-beans.xsd
       http://www.springframework.org/schema/security
       http://www.springframework.org/schema/security/spring-security.xsd">

    <http auto-config="true" use-expressions="true">
        <intercept-url pattern="/**" access="permitAll()"/>

        <form-login login-processing-url="/static/j_spring_security_check"
                    login-page="/login"
                    authentication-failure-url="/login/error"/>
        <logout logout-url="/logout"/>
    </http>

    <ldap-server id="ldapServer" url="ldap://example.com:PORT/dc=example,dc=com" />

    <authentication-manager>
        <ldap-authentication-provider server-ref="ldapServer" user-dn-pattern="uid={0},ou=people"/>
    </authentication-manager>
</beans:beans>

According to spring security documentation, this should work, but it doesn't, instead, it throws this exception:

2012-01-24 23:05:35,843 ERROR org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoader - Context initialization failed

I don't understand what the problem is, I've tried to put the ldap-server element everywhere, but that didn't work.

Is there something I'm missing ?

People also ask

What is LDAP authentication in Spring Security?

LDAP is often used by organizations as a central repository for user information and as an authentication service. It can also be used to store the role information for application users.

Answer to my own question. It seems I've forgotten to add spring-security-ldap as a dependency, now seems to be working.

<dependency>
    <groupId>org.springframework.security</groupId>
    <artifactId>spring-security-ldap</artifactId>
    <version>${spring.security.version}</version>
</dependency>
