Upon running the command - mvn clean -Dmaven.test.skip=true package -X I am getting following error.

There are two simple ways to do that: the simplest one is to add the property on the command line. Also, you will not launch the Spring Boot application in the usual format (java -jar application). On the other hand, you will launch the PropertiesLauncher class but adding in the classpath your Spring Boot application.
Spring Boot is known for its “fat” JAR deployments, where a single executable artifact contains both the application code and all of its dependencies. Boot is also widely used to develop microservices.
Spring Boot's “JarFile” Class. The core class used to support loading nested jars is org.springframework.boot.loader.jar.JarFile . It lets you load jar content from a standard jar file or from nested child jar data.
properties file in your classpath. If you are using Maven or Gradle, you can just put the file under src/main/resources . If you are not using Maven or any other build tools, put that under your src folder and you should be fine.
Issue here was
<start-class>com.myparent.main.Main</start-class>
Had to move it from root module's pom.xml to main module's pom.xml.
Putting it in root causes other modules to look for Main class too causing the issue in packaging.

You're answer seems correct. You must specify the correct main-class/start class as you did. Example:
