I am looking for a shortcut to move the current tab left and right through the tab list. Note that I don't want to switch to the left or right tab with the Cmd+{, Cmd+} shortcuts, but to move the tab.
Press ⌘ Command + ⌥ Option + → to go to the next open tab. Press ⌘ Command + ⌥ Option + ← to go to the previous open tab. Press ⌘ Command + 1 through ⌘ Command + 9 to go to a tab by number. For example, pressing ⌘ Command + 3 will bring you to the 3rd open tab.
One of the most basic and essential shortcut keys is the Ctrl+Tab key combination. This shortcut key will move you forward one tab at a time. So, if you're on the first tab and you press Ctrl+Tab, you'll move to the second tab. If you're on the second tab and you press Ctrl+Tab, you'll move to the third tab, and so on.
you can add a shortcut to have command+left/right arrow go to previous/next tab:
try iterm2, http://iterm2.com/#/section/home
command + left or right arrow to switch tabs
command + shift + left or right to move tabs
