Why do I see a warning about "No appenders found for logger" and "Please configure log4j properly"? This occurs when the default configuration files log4j. properties and log4j. xml can not be found and the application performs no explicit configuration.
Spark uses log4j for logging, however, it requires configuring and therefore you get these warnings. You can configure it by adding a log4j.properties file in the conf directory. There should be a log4j.properties.template in the same directory and you will need to download the log4j.jar to your Java class path.
In the Spark conf folder, I just renamed log4j.properties.template
to log4j.properties
cd $SPARK_HOME/conf
cp log4j.properties.template log4j.properties
