I'm trying to upgrade the numpy
library on macOS, but pip
doesn't seem to have sufficient permissions to delete numpy. Running `pip install --upgrade pip gives me this traceback:
➜ Desktop sudo -H pip install --upgrade numpy

DEPRECATION: Uninstalling a distutils installed project (numpy) has been deprecated and will be removed in a future version. This is due to the fact that uninstalling a distutils project will only partially uninstall the project.
Uninstalling numpy-1.8.0rc1:

So apparently pip is having trouble deleting /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/Extras/lib/python/numpy-1.8.0rc1-py2.7.egg-info
. Trying to delete this file manually in finder gives me this error:
“numpy-1.8.0rc1-py2.7.egg-info” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by OS X.
How can I solve this? (Using the builtin numpy isn't an option because tensorflow
, a package I need, needs the newest version).
NumPy can be installed with conda , with pip , with a package manager on macOS and Linux, or from source.
Use the pip Command to Uninstall NumPy The pip command can install and uninstall most Python libraries through the console.
Since NumPy doesn't come installed automatically with Python, you'll need to install it yourself. The easiest way to do so is by using pip, which is a package manager for Python.
Was facing the same issue
sudo pip install --ignore-installed numpy
